WELCOME TO THE GINNY MCCLELLAND DANCE STUDIO.

We’re glad to have you as a member of our Studio Family, and looking forward to a great year!
Listed below are some studio policies that we feel will keep our studio running smoothly and allow us to give each student the best possible dance education.

It is expected that all families will sign an acknowledgment that they have read this document in full.  The document is then to be returned to the front desk so that we know that you have read our policies.

If you have any questions, please check with the secretary.

DRESS CODE – Students are required to wear dance attire (leotards and tights) for all classes. Any color, one piece leotard and tights may be worn. Boys are permitted to wear jazz pants, sweat suits or shorts and tee shirts. Proper shoes must be worn for each class. Ballet students wear pink vinyl or leather (no cloth with foam sole) ballet shoes. Tap students wear suntan Mary Jane tap shoes. Mon. adv. tap students wear black oxford tap shoes. (split sole or solid). Mon. and Tues. Jazz/hip hop students wear suntan jazz boots. Thurs. hip hop students wear black, Capezio Dance sneakers.

We strongly suggest that you write your child’s name inside his or her shoes and all other dance attire.

Hair must be neatly secured off of the face in a neat bun, braids, or ponytail. To keep hair from being a distraction, snap clips are also required to keep short pieces and long bangs around the face secured. No headbands please! Our lost and found box is located in the dressing room. Items left for more than one month are donated. Dancers should not wear jewelry to class, except for small stud earrings. No street shoes are to be worn in the dance rooms at any time.

Students are not to enter or leave the dance studio dressed only in leotards and tights. Students must wear a “cover up” – pants, shorts, or a skirt and a top and shoes.

WAITING ROOM – for everyone’s safety and consideration, please keep the hallway, waiting room floor, chairs and couches free of shoes, dance and book bags, coats, etc. These items can be kept under the chairs or in the dressing room. Please – no shoes on the couches!!! No LEGO blocks in the center of the waiting room floor. Please keep them to the side so that parents and students can quickly and safely access the waiting and dressing rooms.

NO FOOD OR DRINKS PERMITTED IN THE WAITING ROOM.  

CLASSES – Students are to be dressed with their hair up at class time. Younger students wait in the hall for teacher or assistant. Older students enter classroom as soon as previous class ends. Students with back to back classes have 5 mins. between classes and older students should remain in dance room to change shoes. No cell phone use during class time. Bottled water may be taken into dance rooms and used between classes and for water break during class.

DRESSING ROOM – Please do not leave money or valuables in the dressing room during classes. You may leave them at the desk, with the secretary, or take them into the dance room with you.

NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE PERMITTED IN THE WAITING ROOM, DRESSING ROOM, OR DANCE ROOMS. NO CHEWING GUM IS ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING!

STAFF ONLY – BEHIND THE DESK. We thank all students and parents for your cooperation in this matter.

VISITOR’S WEEK – is held during the first week of classes in September, December, and March. Parents, relatives, and friends are invited to observe classes. The doors may be closed or covered on other days to minimize distractions for the students. If you wish to discuss your child’s progress or any other matter, the teacher will be happy to call you or or talk with you in person at your convenience.

PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO SPEAK WITH TEACHERS BETWEEN CLASSES AS THIS WILL TAKE AWAY CLASS TEACHING TIME.

WINTER TERM RUNS JANUARY THROUGH MAY

Full monthly tuition payment is due for months having Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter breaks.

TUITION PAYMENTS – Payments for dance lessons are due with the FIRST lesson of each month. A 10% discount is given if payment for the FULL term is made by Sept. 30 for the Fall term, or Jan by Jan 31 for the Winter term. The discount rate is 10%.

LATE FEES                                     **** PLEASE NOTE****
If payment is made after the 15th of the month, add $5.00 late fee. If payment is not paid until after the last day of the month, add another $5.00 late fee. LATE FEES – ( $5.00 for each 1/2 month) ($10.00 for each full month) until paid in full.

STUDENTS WHOSE ACCOUNTS ARE OVER TWO MONTHE PAST DUE WILL NOT BE PERMITED TO ATTEND CLASS UNTIL TUITION IS PAID IN FULL.

2013-2014 TUITION SCALE PER STUDENT IS AS FOLLOWS:
$37.00 per month for ONE class per week
$59.00 per month for TWO classes per week
$76.00 per month for THREE classes per week
$85.00 per month for FOUR classes per week
$89.00 per month for FIVE classes per week
$111.00 per month for SIX classes per week
$122.oo per month for SEVEN or MORE classes per week

PRIVATE LESSONS: 

$60.00 per month for solo private lesson
$40.00 per month per person for duo/trio private lesson

NOTE – A ballet class and a class in the same subject as the private lesson is required to perform in the recital.

ABSENCE POLICY: PARENTS ARE TO NOTIFY THE STUDIO IF THEIR CHILD WILL BE ABSENT OR LATE. STUDENTS ARE TO CHECK IN AT THE DESK EACH WEEK AND GIVE THE SECRETARY THEIR NAME WHEN THEY ARRIVE FOR CLASS. A PARENT MUST NOTIFY THE THE TEACHER AND SECRETARY IF THEIR CHILD WILL BE LEAVING EARLY.

PRIVATE LESSON STUDENTS MUST NOTIFY THE TEACHER OR SECETARY BY ***NOON***OF THE DAY OF THEIR LESSON IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND, OR THE LESSON WILL NOT BE MADE UP.

***NO EXCEPTIONS! PRIVATE LESSON STUDENT’S COSTUMES ARE TO BE PAID IN FULL BEFORE THEY CAN BE ORDERED. Check with the secretary for the total price.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS – Students who wish to take a pointe or private lessons and perform in the recital are required to take a ballet class. Students who wish to take a private lesson are required to take a class in the same subject. As their solo.

MISSED CLASSES – Any missed class may be made up within the term. Please check with the secretary for make up class times. No refunds or reductions are made for missed classes. Missed classes cannot be made up after February as recital dances are being practiced.

IF A STUDENT IS INJURED, THEY ARE TO ATTEND CLASS. NOT DANCING, BUT WATCHING! OBSERVING THEIR CLASS ALLOWS THEM TO STAY CURRENT WITH TECHNIQUE AND CHOREOGRAPHY BEING TAUGHT AND PREVENTS THEM FROM FALLING BEHIND. WATCHING THE CLASS AND LISTENING TO THE TEACHER IS VALUABLE! GOOD ATTENDANCE IS VITAL FOR ADVANCEMENT AND IS BENEFIT TO THE STUDENT, TEACHER AND CLASSMATES! REDUCTIONS CANNOT BE MADE, EVEN WITH A DOCTOR’S EXCUSE.

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS – In case of inclement weather (bad snow or ice), check WANB radio cancellation announcements! We also try to reach everyone by phone. Please be sure the secretary has all phone numbers we can use. Cancellations are also posted on Facebook.
WE DO NOT CANCEL EVERY TIME SCHOOL CANCELS!

DANCE RECITAL – Tickets are required for everyone entering the auditorium to watch the recital. The dance recital is held at Waynesburg Central High School. If your child is not going to perform in the dance recital, you must notify the secretary, IN WRITING, no later than November 30. Students not performing in the recital may take class until the end of February. Show dates will be posted as soon as we receive confirmation from the Central Greene business office.

SHOW DATES ARE REQUESTED FROM THE THIRD WEEK IN MAY TO THE MIDDLE OF JUNE. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS WHEN PLANNING VACATIONS. 

COSTUMES – We order costumes at the End of November and into December.
 COSTUME DEPOSIT IS DUE BY MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4. 

IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE: PARENTS ARE ASKED TO CHECK AND OK THE MEASUREMENTS AND SIZE OF THE COSTUME BEING ORDERED FOR THEIR CHILD.

EXCHANGE FEES ARE CHARGED BY THE COSTUME COMPANIES. 

A $10 EXCHANGE FEE WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENT IF A DIFFERENT SIZE IS WANTED AFTER DELIVERY.  ALL COSTUMES MUST BE PAID IN FULL (AND TUITION PAID UP TO DATE) BEFORE COSTUMES CAN BE TAKEN HOME.

The total charge for all of the costumes will be listed at the desk. Excluding your costume deposit, you can figure the balance owed on each costume. Costume deposits are due by Monday, November 4. $35.00 per costume and are NON-REFUNDABLE.

A costume WILL NOT be ordered if deposit is not received. Parents are responsible for paying costume balance if their child drops the class.

WE DO NOT CLOSE FOR TEACHER IN-SERVICE DAYS OR HOLIDAYS OTHER THAN THE FOLLOWING: 

THANKSGIVING BREAK – The studio WILL BE CLOSED Wed. Nov. 27 through Mon. Dec. 2. Classes resume Tues. Dec. 3.

CHRISTMAS BREAK – 2 WEEKS – The studio WILL BE CLOSED Thurs. Dec. 19 through Mon. Jan 1. Classes resume Tues. Jan 2.

EASTER BREAK – The studio WILL BE CLOSED Wed. Apr. 16 through Mon. Apr. 21. Classes resume Tues. Apr 22.

PHOTOGRAPHY – Portraits With Pride of Steubenville will take color pictures of ALL students individually as well as All dance groups. These pictures will be for sale by Portraits With Pride Studio. Even though your child will have pictures taken, you are under NO OBLIGATION TO PURCHASE PICTURES. All pictures will be taken in our dance studio. Be sure to check all listings as posted on the bulletin boards.

CONVENTIONS AND COMPETITIONS – All convention and competition notices will be posted on the bulletin board and are open to all who are eligible. We encourage students to attend workshops, conventions, and competitions, as this will enhance their training. Classes will be chosen for competition at the discretion of the teacher.

CHRISTMAS PARADE – The dance studio will participate in the Waynesburg Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade on Sat. Dec. 7. ANY student may participate. Check the bulletin boards for information and to sign up.

PLEASE NOTE**** IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, OR SUGGESTIONS DURING THE YEAR, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SPEAK WITH THE TEACHERS, SECRETARY, OR GINNY. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU AND WOULD LIKE YOUR INPUT.

I UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN REGISTERING FOR EACH TERM, I AM RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE ENTIRE TERM REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF CLASSES OFFERED OR ATTENDED. THE GMDS ONLY OFFERS CLASSES BY THE TERM, NOT BY THE MONTH. MAKE UP CLASSES ARE OFFERED WITHIN EACH TERM.

*PAYMENT FOR THE TERM MAY BE MADE MONTHLY OR ONCE FOR THE ENTIRE TERM.
